Day 1: Udzungwa Mountains National Park and Sanje Waterfalls Hike
Depart early in the morning from Morogoro and travel to Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Upon arrival at the park headquarters, meet your professional park guide and receive a briefing before beginning your hike through the rainforest. Guided hikes are mandatory within the park and provide valuable insights into the area’s unique ecology and wildlife.
The trail leads through dense tropical forest where you may encounter endemic primates including the Sanje Mangabey and Iringa Red Colobus Monkey, as well as numerous bird species found only within the Eastern Arc Mountains.
Continue hiking to the spectacular Sanje Waterfalls, which cascade approximately 170 meters through multiple tiers, making them among the most impressive waterfalls in Tanzania’s national park system. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Kilombero Valley, relax beside the natural pools, and enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by pristine wilderness. Visitors may also have the opportunity to swim in the waterfall pools depending on conditions.
